The City of Bedford Animal Control & Shelter is a municipally funded animal shelter serving the citizens of Bedford. Each year our officers respond to thousands of calls for assistance from people with animal-related problems. Our professionally trained and certified Animal Control Officers provide a variety of services to the community. Animal adoptions, public education, ordinance violation enforcement, and humane law enforcement are all tasks completed on a daily basis by our officers.

Adopting a Friend

There is never a shortage of pets in need of loving homes. If you have made the decision to add a pet (or pets!) to your family, remember this is a life-time commitment and is not a decision to be taken lightly. Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and many other animals are waiting for responsible owners in our shelter and in shelters all across the country. Adopting a pet from our shelter costs no more than $65 and you get over half of that back in veterinary services for the pet you adopt. Be a hero and save a life the next time you are thinking of bringing a new pet home! You do not have to be a resident of Bedford to adopt, however you do have to be able to come to our shelter as we can not ship any animal under any circumstances.

Adoption fees are $60 for all animals and adopters receive a $10 voucher towards the cost of a rabies vaccination and a $25 voucher to go towards the costs of the spay/neuter surgery.

ALL ADOPTED ANIMALS MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED WITHIN A SPECIFIED TIME OR CITATIONS WILL BE ISSUED TO THE ADOPTER.

Bedford residents must also purchase a $15 city license. All other vaccinations and health services are the adopter's responsibility. Animals may be viewed anytime during our regular hours which are 8-6 Monday through Friday and 8 - 2 on Saturdays. Animals can not be placed on hold for potential adopters and all adoptions are first-come, first-serve.
